Job Description

As Operations Manager for the Master Data Management (MDM) platform at METRO, you will ensure the reliable and efficient operation of our central MDM platform. The platform is the backbone for article, customer, and supplier master data across the organization. You will provide operational leadership across 7 cross-functional teams, bridging technical excellence with organizational delivery to keep the platform running at its best.Your responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end operational health of the Master Data Management platform across 7 teams
  • Ensure platform stability, reliability, and performance for article, customer, and supplier master data domains
  • Define and enforce operational standards, SLAs, and incident management processes across all MDM teams
  • Act as the primary escalation point for operational issues and coordinate cross-team incident response
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase platform reliability and reduce operational toil
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, architects, and squad leads to align operational needs with the product roadmap
  • Manage and optimize on-call processes, runbooks, and operational documentation
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence and knowledge sharing across all 7 teams
  • Identify risks and dependencies, and proactively mitigate operational bottlenecks
  • Represent MDM operations in cross-domain forums and stakeholder discussions

Required key competencies and qualifications

  • Proven experience in an operations, platform engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role at a senior level
  • Strong understanding of SRE principles: SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, and incident management
  • Experience leading or coordinating multiple teams or squads
  • Solid understanding of data management concepts, preferably in master data domains (article, customer, or supplier)
  • Demonstrated ability to define and implement operational processes (incident management, change management, on-call rotations)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to navigate complex operational challenges
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and drive alignment across teams
  • Good fluency in English (written and verbal)
